Genre(s): Thrash Metal
Formed in São paulo, São Paulo - 1984. Formed in São
Paulo by a group of friends who divertian playing covers, the Antahres became a
reality in 1985 when the first incarnation of the band was consolidated with
junior Evan Sparrow on drums and bass, remaining until today, in addition
Cristiam of guitarists and Spider and the legendary vocalist Henry
"Well." By defining the name, chosen at random from a star in the
constellation Scorpius, the quintet broke then to compose their own material.
His poetry has portrayed the part of social alienation in all its diversity,
issues such as disturbances of the human mind, social violence and chaos of
world wars, the nuclear nightmare and dictatorships were contesting priority in
directing the band since his first compositions. The show's debut Anthares
happened in July 1985 with the opening of the defunct band from São Paulo
Titanium. Can not imagine what was coming after her first appearance on the
scene in São Paulo. This show represents the spark of several anthology shows,
for example, the festival of Sao Jose dos Campos in April 1987, where he played
with Anthares Tharithimas Sarcophagus and before an audience of 1,800 people.
The Anthares played several times at the now defunct Raimbow Bar, at the time,
the main concentration of bangers from across the metropolis. The band surpassed
all records at their shows, one was in August 1987, where the public has
exceeded expectations for two consecutive nights. In December 1987 the Anthares
released their first album, "The Edge of Force", under the label
Devil Drives. We spent 60 hours and recorded eight songs in 24 channels, among
them some that were already part of the repertoire of the band in their first
concerts, which were already quite familiar to the public as "The Edge of
Force", "Massacre" and "Disturbia Final." The band
toured throughout the year promoting the 1988 album "The Edge of
Force." Many materials in Magazines and Fanzines, interviews in
specialized programs of FM radios, and, of course, many shows. One of the
presentations was the great festival of Santa Isabel, who in addition had
Anthares bands Sepultura, Dorsal Atlantica and Attomica held in the main gym of
the city to a large audience. In April 1989 the band performed in Brasilia with
the
MX, one of the best concerts of his career in the Gran Circo Traditional
Home. Another great presentation Anthares was the first version of the great
World's Thrash Festival, produced by the record Heavy Metal Maniac, one of the
largest and most successful metal festival ever held in Sao Paulo, which
brought together in one night, Sepultura, RDP, Korzus, Attomica, Revenge and
Anthares. In 1989 came unexpected changes in training, something the group did
not suffer from the stability of his first training in 1985. First, the
departure of Cristian, who moved to Chile, his country of origin. In its place
came the Topperman guitarist who played in the formation of the first Korzus.
Some months later, it was the turn of singer Enrique "Well" to leave
the band due to disagreements with the producer on how the second album that
was about to be written. It was like the end of a cycle, and at the same time,
an unpredictable start. Little is heard of Anthares in 1990, and while many
wondered about his fate, the band locked themselves in studios struggling to
rebuild their future. In 1991 guitarist Spider ceded its place to Mauricio, a
former Megaforce. Came new singers in the 90/91 biennium, but none managed to
stay in the band. The training only stabilized permanently only in late 1991
with the arrival of the vocal Renato. With Evan Jackson (drums), Sparrow (bass)
and Mauricio Topperman (guitar) and Renato (vocals), the revitalized Anthares
resurfaced. The songs were sung with lyrics in English, since the goal was to
reach the foreign market. The relationship was definitively acquired by the new
formation in a short time and walked Anthares its first decade of life. The
band came to record some material in English that showed the great progress
achieved over the years. The Anthares continued its activities, composing new
music and performing several concerts. The presentations were focused mainly in
the state capital of São Paulo and in many towns. The new songs show a new face
of the band, with a more technical style that followed the main trends of the
season. In 1996 the life goals of each of the band members went separate ways
and with different goals, the band failed to take its course with a single,
cohesive force. That was when the members decided to terminate their
activities, and each went in search of their goal. The idea of putting
the Anthares back in business has always been present during all the years the
band has been stopped. The friendship between everyone always remained the same
and when they were remembered with nostalgia the many stories of old. What was
an idea became reality when Frank, the current voice of the band, decided to
invite the members of Anthares to perform a concert in June 2004. The same
lineup of 1996 would be present, but the singer Renato, living in the United
States could not join the band's return. Thus, Frank took over the vocals of
the band with the remnants of the 90s: Evan Jr. (drums), Sparrow (bass) and
Mauricio Topperman (guitars). Bringing a new repertoire of songs that are
undeniable proof of the new musical direction, as evidenced by the technique
and weight, the Anthares is back again singing in Portuguese keeping the old
roots of the band merged with the new aggressive and destructive.
