BULIMIA

[bulimia.jpg]

Genre(s): Hardcore / Punk

Formed in Brasília - DF, 1998. It was in mid 1998 that Bianca and Berila met and had a conversation that revealed the common desire to have an all-girl band. Both already had some experience with bands including only girls, but they were not touching at the time. Together they formed a good structure, with Bianca Berila on drums and guitar, but knew it would be a challenge to find girls willing to play punk rock and old fashioned face but unavoidable bias to female emancipation. Nevertheless, they were willing to try. Wondering who would accept such a mission, Bianca called her friend Silvia, who was learning the first notes in the bass. Missing only one person to complete the quartet, and Ieri, friend Bianca, has emerged as the definitive choice. Ready! He formed the band. BULIMIA - this was the name chosen for the banda. The name of a disease that affects so many women, obsessed by a standard of beauty dictated by the media, could not be better for a band that just struggle against patriarchal and macho culture of our society that treats women as mere object, which must follow a stereotyped pattern of beauty to be accepted. It was with this idea that Bianca wrote what would eventually turning the anthem of banda, a song about women who fail to do what they want because they think it's a guy thing, the classic "punk rock is not only pro your boyfriend." They were excited! Rehearsed at least two or three times a week in the garage of the house Berila. Silvia was starting to miss by not having schedules compatible with the other girls. Without that would realize, Naiana, who had previously played in other bands with Bianca was taking down. As I had six songs ready, they decided to make a home recording to get an idea of what they were doing. It was impossible to hide the satisfaction and pride that recording so rough! They had not only managed to assemble a band of girls as they had in their hands the fruit of that project. It was around the time that the Misfits, an American punk rock band came to perform in Brazil for the first time in July 1998. And like any fan, Bianca was preparing to go to Sao Paulo to watch the show, taking advantage of the situation to carry in your backpack with some tapes to such recording. These tapes were given to a friend of Campinas, one of Taubaté São Paulo and other capital without much pretension, it was just a home recording. But with that, the band was becoming known for more distant friends. On August 98 they entered a studio to record a demo with six songs ready. The inexperience prevented the result was 100% satisfactory, but as every punk rock band, the concern was not whether the sound was good, but if it was possible that the letters were understood. At that time, was invited to participate with two songs from a collection of female bands from Brazil, organized by friends of the bands feminists paulistas TPM and Dominatrix. The invitation was irresistible, since the idea was spread that recording. Bulimia was the first band of the collection, which has just received the name of "punk rock is not only pro boyfriend" On October 98, Bianca's boyfriend, Alvaro Dutra, decides to record 10 songs, and she enters the studio with him participating both recording (playing guitar and singing) as production. That gave her a broader view of how to work in a studio, both because Álvaro already have some familiarity with studios for doing some other recordings before, like the disengagement from work, and friendship with the owner of the studio. With a broader vision of how to lead a band, Bianca suggested that Bulimia entered the studio to record 15 songs and release an independent CD. Choosing the studio which had intimacy, everything seemed simple: get, save and exit. Turns out available times in the studio did not fit with them and it ended up hurting the agility of the recording, which took much longer than planned because of the short recording sessions which sometimes amounted to one hour a week. After recording the instruments and voices are now in the process of mixing and mastering. Again, an unforeseen delay production further: the studio was changing places. After a few months still, Bianca and Alvaro resume production putting the finishing touches needed to the disk. At this time, Bianca, Bruno and Alvaro Cavalcanti, joined their projects and founded the PROTONS stamp that would first release the cd "If the judge was unable biggest mistake he made," the Bulimia. All ready, the CD is sent to the factory with the promise of being delivered on 10/02/2001. To the dismay of everyone involved with the production of the CD, as well as with the band, comes the news of a serious accident involving Berila and boyfriend (Bill). After three days missing, their bodies were found in a waterfall of Moon Valley (Chapada dos). The news of the drowning of the couple caused much sorrow, after all, the band has lost not only a friend but a member who, along with Bianca, made the banda. There was not much point in continuing. All were very shaken, and did not realize that the cd that should arrive on February 10 had not yet arrived. When calling the representative responsible for the cd, surprise: the cd was not ready, and had not expected to be delivered. Herein, rumored that such representative was not working as it should and had already caused problems for other people. The despair was complete when he realized that all the money invested might be lost. After many problems, investigations and coaches, the cd is finally ready, on April 15. Although the band no longer exists, the cd "If the judge was unable biggest mistake he made," which contains 15 of the 16 songs that the band wrote, is a very complete record of those four girls did in his short career. Today: Ieri Naiana and are involved with their professional lives without time for bands. Bianca, besides working with PROTONS, plays in the band Pulse.
