Genre(s): Hardcore / Metalcore
Formed in Belo Horizonte - MG, 2001. From Sepulturas hometown, Belo Horizonte, Brazil, hails one of the most powerful South American metal acts: Carahter. In July 2001, Carahter recorded their first and only demo tape, which instantly got an excellent response from the Brazilian hardcore scene, as well as from big national extreme music magazines and intenational hardcore magazines and on-line fanzines such as Heartattack and Aversionline.com. The Brazilian hardcore scene was taken by storm in January, 2002: An incredible series of shows involving Heaven Shall Burn, Confronto and Carahter crossed Brazil. This memorable tour gave the band a great deal of exposure, which ended up with their signing with Liberation Recordings, South Americas leading hardcore label, home of bands like Heaven Shall Burn, Point of No Return, The Black Dahlia Murder, Sick Of It All, Madball, Hatebreed, Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, Job For A Cowboy, Bleeding Through, Walls Of Jericho, Throwdown, Nueva Etica, Terror, Catharsis, Caliban, etc. In July, 2002, Carahters debut CD, O intenso desespero sobre a decadência humana, was released by Liberation Recordings, featuring nine incredible tracks of heavy and diverse music blending elements of grind, metal, hardcore and sludge. This CD got extremely good reviews from metal/hardcore publications all around the world, becoming a highly acclaimed South American hardcore masterpiece: North American and European metal/hardcore listeners take note, especially if you have political convictions, for you will probably not read about this great record in other hardcore publications from the global North. With their dramatic downtuning, totally overloaded production, and unearthly atmosphere, Carahter manages to capture the same atmosphere Systral did on their amazing Fever 10 (Brian D Inside Front .14), Carahter from Brazil is fuckinawesome! By owning a terrifying obscure sound full of sluggish density, the Belo Horizonte hardcore crew plays overwhelming music mainly influenced by bands like old-Neurosis, Mörser and the mighty His Hero is Gone. (Jack Flannery Cara a Cara Underground.com), Carahter do an incredible job delivering over the top metallic and chaotic hardcore with characteristic vocal duties varying from grunt to screaming. (JP Value of Strength Mag .9) ,Being as confronting as their Labelmates Point of no return are, Carahter play some evil, destructive metalcore reminding me a lot of Mörser and the likes () this was really a good addition to the records I received over the past months, especially because of its mean character.." (Phil Poison Free.com) , "Right on! Splendid effort here by Brazils kings of destructive terror CARAHTER! () Musically they combine the best of slow, dragging heaviness with ultra metallic grind parts." (Bruno Bullet Magazine .4), A musically annihilation full of emotions, power and melancholy, through the great production this record is just a punch in your face. (Marcel - SilentStagnation.com). Right after their CD release, Carahter toured South America, being able to knock people down with their tight, intense and professional live appearances in basements, clubs and important festivals such as the Liberation Fest (São Paulo) , the Rancor Fest (Belo Horizonte), the Mosh Fest (Santiago, Chile) and the São Paulo Hardcore Fest, becoming acknowledged as a truly competent hybrid from metal and hardcore, emerging as a vivid representation of all the diversity, talent and dedication that permeate the South American hardcore scene. From June 17th to August 1st of 2004 they have toured Europe and have played with the bands like Walls Of Jericho, The Hope Conspiracy, Heaven Shall Burn, From Ashes Rise, Mental, Against me! among many others. In 2006 the band took a break and came up together again in 2010 writing new songs that will be released in summer 2011.
